Asked my go to guy about this and this is what came out.
"its based on an american lucern cutter, originally pulled by bison. internal self mechanically driven. sometimes they were pulled by 6 bullocks, they can cut down 6 foot gumtrees".
Any info would be interesting, but as he wont part with it.i dont know if i am just frustrating myself.

It looks like it is one of the old Heavy Cut machines and I think I might have some brochures on them, will have a look tomorrow. cheers2
