Hi Guys,

I would like to share this cheap DIY inductive pickup design and prototype. Buying a commercial inductive pickup is not cheap and sometimes it may not serve the purpose because you can't use it with your normal frequency meter due to incorrect reading or low pickup signal. I have demonstrated to design an inductive pickup that will surely pickup the signal and able to read with an ordinary multimeter with frequency counter in Hz. Why build if you can buy a commercial inductive pickup? Why build if you can buy a cheap tachometer with inductive wire? I would like to hear your view why? Now I have the flexibility and knowledge to build further project that can benefits everyone. On my future project, I would like to design and active battery powered inductive pickup with spark indicator, another one with built-in RPM meter on an Arduino based micro-controller, also another one which you can connect it to your mobile phone. The possibility are endless. I hope you will find this project useful and build for your own.

That was brilliant watched part 1 way over my head as far as the knowledge shown but excellent to watch and from the instructions given and the clear explanations I cannot see that a lay person could not build this after watching further videos.
Your knowledge of electronics is first class, will watch part 2 at a later date.
Thank you for your time on this Regards.

Being a person that has and still do work with electronics I usually like to see a schematic for any electronic/electric project.

Thanks Beech

In my future YouTube video project is to integrate a li-ion battery powered tiny arduino micro-controller with Bluetooth and monitor the RPM on your mobile App. The Android App will also allows you to see if the engine has spark. I have started a prototype to measure RPM with arguing and write an Android app to read the information from the device. When time permits, this will be on YouTube. Also I will be uploading an experiment with three types of Poppet Valves and noting its RPM on different settings. You might be interested to see what I have found on the G4 carburetor body. Thanks.

Hi AVB,

The schematic is also shown on YouTube but I will also post the schematic of my design on ODK for everyone's reference. Thanks.

It is just that I don't watch Youtube videos. I have seen too many stupid ones so they are now blocked on my system. I do have a couple regular inductive tachs already. Tiny Tach II and the Echo/Husqvarna PET tach ( the one that you can just hold it against the high tension lead though I use the cable and clip most times.

My first Tiny Tach died due to non replaceable battery and the second like to hang up requiring a reset with a knife blade. Just got the PET one recently so no real history on it though I have about 30 min elapse time on it.
