Hi all.
The trusty gtr ride-on(mtd)after a few mins the belts start to slip and i loose drive(were new belts).I have replaced the variable pulley and lever bushes as they had a bit of play but still it looses power and i get the burning belt smell.
What i have noticed is that the clutch/brake lever does not return all the way back when in gear and driving. I'm going to drop off the deck on the weekend and jack up the back and have a look at whats going on.
but any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Ride on do you have the model number and serial so that I can post a parts list which will help in sorting out your problem.

It could be something as simple as a return spring because from what you are saying about the clutch brake it appears that the clutch is not fully disengaging. cheers2

Hi Bruce
Thanks for the swift reply
There is no model no.on it but you have kindly posted a manual (LT-12,MODEL NO.132-666F190)that i have been using to order parts and get an idea how it all works. While the chassis looks different the running gear is the same ie. deck, diff and pulleys.
Thanks again.

Thanks Bruce.I got under her today and dropped the deck off.
Everything looked like it was in place, the only thing that looked wrong was that there was not enough "pre-tension" on the engine belt. This was causing the clutch pedal to sit low and letting the belt slip but enough to drive for a while. Now adjusted the pedal sits high and it disengages drive half way down.
Hope that's all it was.
Thanks for your help

Hi again
I just did a big cut, running for about an hour, all was well until the engine belt had a meltdown?
Bruce do you have the specs to correctly set and adjust the drive belts.I'm only guessing and not getting it right.

Ride on,

Have you downloaded the manual from the parts list and manuals area of the forum as it has information on how the belts are setup. cheers2

Hi Bruce,i cant see my type of drive in the manuals.I went down to my local and very friendly lawn mower shop (big plug here) Hoppings in rydalmare and the old boy there gave me an owners manual, very pleased with that!
But after setting everything up as per the manual, during test drive smoke started coming from the front pulley. Now the only thing left that i can think is wrong,is that the engine pulley V is worn and causing the belt to slip? I took the plunge and ordered a new one.I mean whats left to do? I'm really getting sick of it.Things have got so bad i had to push the victa around the lawn on Saturday cringe...

Ride on are you sure that it is the engine pulley and not the variable speed pulley? cheers2

Yes Bruce, I'm 100% sure that the variable pulley is fine and free as i rechecked it when replacing the front belt.
Hoppings rang and the new one is ready to be picked up.I'll try and fit it Saturday and see what happens.
