Hello: New member here. I have set myself my first mower restoration task.
I was wondering if members could assist and kindly identify the mover I have please.
The ID panel was very painted over but with some cleaning it looks as if it reads:
Scott Bonnar LTD Australia
Mower No. SC 04717

Thank you

Hello Bambi
So, it's a Super Cut.

The mower number is essentially a mower serial number,
not a model number.

Yes, more images needed for better identification.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply Jack. Here are some more images.
From the very weathered label I think I have determined it was sold or serviced by:
PRIDE MOWERS Pittwater Road Collaroy (NSW). From the 4 digit phone number I think the label is from 1960's
How it ended up in Brisbane - who knows *smiles*

Hello Bambi

Your images explain the situation.
That's a great image of a Ballarat nameplate.

This looks like the largest 24" machine.
I guess this must be an early 1960s SB Super Cut.

The 'RG' means this had a reverse gear, given the rotation
needed to be reversed to give clockwise reel rotation.

The rear main-frame plates indicate an accessory was fitted.

What a great machine!
Please keep us informed!

Hello Jack - Thank you for your message and for the information

From all the information on this site I have researched I think the unit I have maybe:
Supercut (1963¬?)
Villiers Mark 12/1 RG four-stroke engine (fitted with 3-1 reduction gear). Capacity 120 c.c.; output 1.5 b.h.p. at 2,800 r.p.m.;
ignition—Villiers fly¬wheel magneto;
carburettor—Villiers B10/1;
fuel tank capacity-1 gallon.

Would the accessory be for the transport wheels perhaps?
Yes it will be the l-o-n-g project *smiles*
Thanks again

Hello Bambi

Before I can comment, I need to know the cutting width.
I have suggested a 24" cut, but we have few images of your machine.

Could you confirm the width please.

The 1963 catalogue may be found here: -

I don't think so.
Evidence shows that the Supercut had powered transport wheels
that required an initial factory spec - different rear axle and chaincase.

The rear brackets suggest another accessory - like a scarifier, maybe ...

Many thanks for exploring the Supercut.

Hello Jack:

Thank you for your message.

I have taken 10 photos today which I hope will help.
They can be viewed or downloaded from:
This <link>

As you can see there is much work to be done *smiles*

1. The catcher unit has holes in it - what would be your advice about that?
1a. The grass 'deflector' part (maybe not the correct name) is currently attached with 2 rivet stays, I presume originally it was something else ?
1b. The throttle cable is unattached and the lever is missing.
2. I eventually found a measure that had inches on it, and the cutting blade looks around 20 inches in length (see photo)
3. The fuel valve and the oil filler cap look rather modern (?)
4. Under the poor paint job, I found what is perhaps the original color. It looks like a more blue type green and it looks metallic. But not the hammer finish Apple Green type of other models?
Thank you

Hello bambi
Great images for the record there!

I'm not a collector or restorer, so I regard myself useless
in those areas. blush

That's a great story on finding an Imperial ruler.
I grew up with both systems so it's easy for me.

I do find it amusing, though, when younger folk order things
in 'dozens'.

Yes, a few modern changes with replacement fuel tap
and oil filler cap on your machine.

Please keep us in the loop as folks love these stories.

Sorry I can't help further, except for saying the Queens, and
the Supercuts are - in the professional range - SB's crowning
achievements.

Cheers
