l have been given a lightly used minimow, has a B&S 825 electric start donk. lnstalled a new battery as the old one was dead but it wont start. Starter motor is working fine, if l spray some ether down the air intake it runs for 2-4 seconds then stops dead....l'm thinking it might be a micro switch? Any advice / suggestions welcome

Hi Redeye,
simple answer is the carby, starter fluid has proven everything else is working as it should

Under the bowl there should be a brass nut remove that, it is also the main jet, best take the carby right off and give it a good clean on the outside before dismantling keeps unwanted dirt from getting in, give the whole thing a good going over with carby clean blow out with compressed air. Careful you dont lose the needle and its associated mountings.

As Beech has said, carby needs a complete strip and clean and even then it may not solve the problem, depends on the damage inside the carb

l've done the carby (short of ultrasonic bath) but no difference - considering it is an 825 IC and l have 2 spare 850 Prof engines, it might be easier to do an engine swap, has anyone got an idea of the shaft size they use? l cant access it without a lot of drama, possibly have to drop the deck......

Well if you have 2 spare engines and they run then it is a lot easier to swap the carby off one of them, if they are not running don't waste your time swapping them over, just get the one fixed that is in the mower.

this it the possible replacement, the carbies on the 2 engines are mounted on opposite sides so cant really be swapped

Ok, no can do, push mower shaft is 7/8th inch, rideon is 1 inch and bolt pattern is different, so back to fixing the carby. Can you put up a pic of the carby What is the problem with getting a new carby, can you put up a pic of it, it is a Briggs so it will be available

Ok so something else will fit with a bit of work, I'm guessing (without seeing a pic of the carby and bolt centers and governor arm) that a Quantam carb would go close Another question, is there any chance this has been run on E10 fuel, if so carby will be junk
This carby must go close
