Hi all,

Went in to grab some toilet paper. Nothing to be seen.

Paper towel? Nah, out of stock.

Dentists set to close shop because no masks to be had.

Doctors in Bunnings trying to get masks....

Farmers unable to plant crops because of chemical shortages due to the virus (probably because it is all sourced overseas now).

Welcome to Corona Madness (well, the beginning).

I've been reading about it and it's a case of monkey see monkey do. I'd love to know how it began to take hold here in a supposed stable country. I'm ashamed.
It seems it's to do with fear of not being able to get this basic comfort item. Pure herd mentality taking hold.

I couldn't get my favourite pasta from Aldi yesterday either thanks to the hysteria. Wiped out except for the relatively expensive gourmet pasta alternatives made from legumes.

I had better luck at Coles there but the usual sight of glaringly empty isles where TP and tissue products were. I think the supermarkets have been too slow to act in limiting purchases. This situation is unacceptable and had exposed weaknesses in their inventory model

Someone told me a woman had a trolley load of pasta and she had a property in the country she said her family were going to hole up in.
Have we reached the start of an apocalypse?

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

I think the semi loaded with toilet paper fire was probably a heist that went wrong

This is Social Media working it's best magic.

Swine Flu killed more people that this beer drinking orientated virus and Sars was pretty close to it also, just social media was no where near as big as it is now. As mentioned above "Herd Mentality".

This has all become such a stupid thing because of,

SOCIAL MEDIA !!

I live a 24 Hour lifestyle, but every now and again I seem to fall asleep, well at least that's what my wife tells me.

Whatever it is, don't be asking to shake my left hand for a while fellas.

I was just going to buy some of the things in the normal quantities, thinking 'it'll just be the city wimps that are carrying on like this, no worries' then I see the emptiness....Pasta was another thing I was going to grab MF, you know, enough for a couple of bloody meals....pretty pathetic and embarrassing having Australians acting like this. The days of the old school Aussie are long gone it seems.

It does indeed show a very poor model of stocking and sales by the supermarkets too. I wonder how much TP is going for on ebay?

There is no shortage of TP, on TV this morning the warehouse in Adelaide is full of the stuff and they are ramping up production, the problem is the panic buying caught the supermarkets off guard, who would have expected such stupidity, they just have to wait for the trucks to arrive from Adelaide where it is made. Then they will be stuck with it on their shelves for months because it will take people months to use what they have panic bought. Australians are getting dumber by the minute

I went to cut some MDF I bought at bunnings on clearance last month, looked through the tool box and had no masks - then realised my predicament. Managed to snare a couple 3 packs of masks so I could cut it.

Sapper, from what I saw at the local woolworths, most of the people pushing and kicking weren't Aussies.

To answer the ebay question, apparently a s*it load (pun intended). They showed some insane prices on the news last night, but those are just joke prices.

Funny thing is I have been sick for the last few days - getting better now but phlegm and awful cough and other symptoms. Stupid thing is I always stuff up my lowerback from coughing. I had to go out yesterday (was feeling better) and worked out that if you are trying to get down the shopping aisle, all you need do is lightly cough once and there will be a mad rush away from you - quite convenient.

Hey guys,

Yeah, the local chemist was sold out of TP as well, said an 'out of towner' swung past and bought the entire stock of TP and tissues, etc, and off they went. His stuff is pretty expensive, so I hope whoever it was makes a nice big loss.

My wife and I joked about going in and clearing the crowds by sneezing, coughing, etc.

I hope those trucks from Adelaide travel in convoy Norm. Might have to have an APC at the front and rear for guard duties if this nonsense continues.

Honestly the whole thing just reinforces my quite pessimistic view of the human race - I mean really we're one of the better off countries in the world and a relatively serious but not that bad disease is likely several months away from really affecting the masses here - and yet people are losing their head and getting in fights and being tasered over of all things - toilet paper!

Heaven help us all if something really full on like Ebola or Smallpox variant makes it here. Covid18 is serious but generally only a really serious issue for elderly or infirmed individuals.

And the kicker is these morons going and panic buying mean that normal folks can't access essential items - now I'm not talking about myself as I always have our house well stocked and living rural I am only in town every few weeks or so - but they've basically given no thought to anyone else and just greedily taken masses of these products for either no real logic or even worse to then onsell via Gumtree/FB etc.

Alas as they say it only takes a few rotten apples to spoil the barrel - but this is a particularly inglorious effort as for a respiratory illness hoarding TP is illogical bordering on abject stupidity.

G'day all

Thanks all for a great and provocative topic.
This is a timely reminder as to just how irrational Australians can be.

That a seeming respiratory illness should coincide with the anus is bizarre!

In my view the AUS media has been quite irresponsible here.

We need to chill out and let science reign - not irresponsible
politicians, or some media, or commercial comments, reign supreme.

Some commercial interests are making huge money out of fear!
Have we not forgotten Mike More's Bowling for Columbine. lesson?

This is about ... the commercial imperative and FEAR.
Just saying. Just my thoughts.

The Aussies hasn't corner the market on this idiotsy either. It is Nutsy here too. Of course we got the Great American Adult Daycare center in Washington where one man only wants yes men and don't care about science facts.

AVB,
the sad thing is the "true" Aussie no longer exists, we are now just a mish/mash of races from around the world and this has just watered down the Aussie spirit to a point where we are heading as described in the book, The Time Machine, if anybody remembers the book

I managed to get some toilet paper this morning. Meanwhile, around me, people were grabbing masses of it, and harried staff were arguing with them and informing them they could only take one 12 or 18 or whatever pack or equivalent, with some people getting hysterical about this. I also managed to get a couple of packets of pasta. The madness continues.

I'd feel so tempted to chime in and tell them how stupid and selfish they are, but many people these days will escalate to violent acts at the drop of a hat, with disregard for the legal consequences until they actually get to court and plead they are really good people who are being "misunderstood".

I'm thoroughly disgusted at this.

Would be really funny to see how the anti vax brigade handled this if they came up with a vaccine quickly

Bog roll-gate, weather hysteria here in Queensland, climate change denial, the nutter in the White House, P.C. on every subject imagine able!! I can’t cope! So help me I can’t cope!

Media of course is so much the problem but idiots at the top in seemingly all countries are so much more the problem!

AVB, if it’s a crèche they have in Washington then the people who run it should be thrown in gaol! smile

......and we haven’t even touched on the power of massive global tech and software giants.

I’ve been telling people for months that I’m just about to head for the hills, lock the gate and become a hermit......the urge to do so is huge! Perhaps the day gets closer! smile

Cheers,

P.S. The anti-vaxers will fix it with blue crystals and aromatherapy! smile

P.P.S. Why panic about bog roll? Like I said to the wife we’ll just use strips of the local newspapers like they did in the olden days. It’s a better use of the paper than its being used for as newsprint! smile
