Hello ODK History Lovers
The Cooper Engineering Company dominated the wool machinery market here
for over a century. A North American Company, its AUS branch would direct and
control wool farmer’s machinery here for many decades.

The Cooper Rotary Slasher was a rotary lawnmower made by Cooper Engineering
in about 1954. At about this time, Coopers advertising would display the controlling
parent company, the Sunbeam Corporation.

In other words, both Coopers and Sunbeam have a proud history in manufacturing
machinery for our primary industries. Cooper was a BIG Australian company that
would morph into the giant Sunbeam Company of Australia.

Little is known about the Cooper slasher mower, but a couple of newsprint
advertisements show us what it looked like …

PART TWO – The Cooper Rotary Slasher
If someone said to me … “Close your eyes and think of the most dangerous
rotary mower you could design,” then I think I would have designed the Cooper!

This is the rotary action grasscutter at its most basic. In the wrong hands it
would have been a widow maker.

I will write about the brilliant Cooper ‘PT’ engine shortly.
