Bloody hell, that one has certainly 'been rode hard and put away wet', as the [derogatory, towards the rider] equine saying goes.

The handle adjustment mechanism is a high-quality version [i.e. die cast alloy, rather than plastic] of a design that is still used; e.g. on upper-grade Masport models IIRC. My everyday mower, a 2001ish Masport Maxicatch 550, has it.

The engine is a Villiers Torque Major 2-stroke; I'll have to defer to the more knowledgeable to pin it down in detail.
