Hello
ODK History Lovers
This Catcher was Victas
first production catcher.
Before their rear discharge machines (of 1962-63), this was a
side discharge catcher designed for the new Victa
Sheerline and
Four-Star of
1960.
This was a beautiful
all-metal design that resembled a motorcycle side-car! This
styling matched beautifully with Victas first alloy chassis the streamlined Sheerline.
This catcher is not common today. Back then, the vast majority of catchers were purchased
as an option - This one for about 6 Guineas (about 7, and about 10% the cost of a lawnmower).
I guess the vast majority of purchases did not include a catcher for side-discharge mowers.
That story would be quite different for the rear discharge machines. That design intended
grass catching, and there would have been a high uptake on the option.
