It's like a little club, I too have one! My friction disc flogged out and couldn't find another so I decided to pull it off and get new friction material.
Two big mistakes
1 When removing the disc I couldn't budge it at all so decided to use a ball joint fork to get it started. I tried this because the disc doesn't have a centre hole so a 3 jawed puller would pull on the disc centre not the crank. I did this rather than drill a centre hole in the friction material because I am certain it would have asbestos. When I used the fork it pulled the crank down and the motor developed a nasty squeak. I have no idea what this noise is so pulled the motor rather than destroy it. It was a sensational well cared for engine.
2 I got the local brake and clutch bloke to bond on some new friction material. Guaranteed it's the answer to the worlds problems and set me back $100. Didn't do a bloody thing. It slips and has no drive. Should have just a slab of bourbon cans instead!
