Why not remove the cutter drive belt, put the machine up on stands, and let it run unloaded for an hour with the wheel drive engaged? Don't do it with the cutter belt on though, because you'd be trusting the cutter clutch, and that's just not a safe thing to do. From time to time you can take a close look at the drive housings from underneath, and on top as well, to find the leaks.
