bruce sorry to take so long to answer,but q1.yes when replacing muffler (recently) also checked piston as in q5. q2.yes to clean and check float q3. no i believe. q4. no movement. it will now start and run but has no guts when opened to full throttle(similar to a problem mentioned in aemail from a mr madst) when checking the mower i noticed that the diaphram on the cylinder head(the one with a hose that leads back to the carbi) can be wobbled about (checked nut to head,its tight) could this be the problem? bradley
