Had a bit of a mishap today.
I was trying to use my butane soldering iron and the damn thing wouldn't start. It misbehaved last use, but today it went worse.
It always took a few goes to start (internal piezo spark). What turned out to be wrong this time was the little bit of silicone line that transports gas from the tank to the tip.
The stop gas button simply pinches the line, and this had worn through.
As I was trying to start it, the whole handle filled with butane. When it filled up to the top, the piezo got it
Whomp! Hand covered in fire.
Through some minor miracle, no burns, just no hairs left on most of my right hand.
All I can attribute it to is there was so much gas that it was a rich cool burn for the first couple seconds.
So, aside from warning others of these craftright soldering irons (bought for $15 on clearance at bunnings), what soldering irons do you guys like?
I have a corded one, but prefer battery or gas for portability.
Any suggestions?
