Some of them are alright - its just often the exception to the rule.

In bunnings, there was a 25ish yo girl explaining to a 21ish year old boy (also employee) chainsaw and mower features, why customers need both bar oil and 2 stroke, how they need to adjust the chain regularly, and the difference between easy tensioner and regular, mower oil, readystart vs rapidstart.

And she was spot on - I actually congratulated her when I went past a short while later.

But then you get the ones who have no idea what they are doing/halfway care what you want.

In repco 2 months ago, old guy standing there and sour-faced woman looking up spark plug, I could tell from a metre away it was a cj6y. Went up and politely inquired what it was out of, stating I work on this sort of equipment. Mac chainsaw. Torch plug. I said go with a champion CJ6y.

Girl says 'well you are wrong, my book says J8C.' I said I am positive its a cj6y or 7y (explaining slight heat range dif). All she said was its a J8C. I retorted that a J8C has a 15/16 inch hex , taller, non protruding tip won't fit in the saw (height wise to clear air filter, threads fine).

She went out and got the J8C and 'oh, its too big'. I said look up CJ6y.

"Unfortunately we don't have one in stock, seeing as how you know so much about these, what is the NGK number?"

I deadpanned BPM7a. Nothing. Try BPMR7a.

And it was identical - the man thanked me but I never heard anything from her
