My pet hate with bar blades, apart from the fact that they are too light is exactly what happened to the mower in the original post, the bar blade hits something and bingo you can end up with a bent crank. With the round/oval blade carrier with swing back blades if it hits something it in most cases just bounces off. Not rocket science
