Funny about the shim, I would rather that than having a new Briggs overhang the frame. By my calculation it will stick out about 30mm past the side plate. If it was closer to 10mm I could probably live with it, as one of the cylinder bearing cradles has a nut that sits about 10mm proud of the side plate. To each their own I guess.
