Hi all, Looking for an air cleaner assembly as pictured below for a 1980 Scott Bonnar 520 - Briggs and Stratton 4hp engine (#110908 0418-01) Looks like mine has been replaced at some stage in its life with a non standard item (or assembly off another model? Anyone have one floating around? Thanks, Ed.

The first mower has the two-stage air cleaner which was fitted to the I/C engines and some others. The second one has the standard, single-stage air cleaner. What makes you think the second engine should be fitted with the two-stage? Incidentally, you can see that the second engine has a different cooling air intake grille as well as a different air cleaner. You have not given the model or type numbers for the second engine. Here is the illustrated parts list for the first, probably older engine - the 110908 0418: http://bsintek.basco.com/BriggsDocumentDisplay/Z6lnsHVJ1DajI.pdfAs you can see, it shows both types of air cleaner.

After doing some research last nite not actually 100% sure it should have the two stage? Any help here would be appreciated. I made some assumptions based on the black paint (I thought they were all orange out of the factory), seeing other pictures on this forum (not my air cleaner assembly, they all have the two stage or snorkel setup), the 1978 Brochure posted here the 3hp has a filter like mine, the 3.5 has the dual stage, the 4hp actually has the snorkel in this pic... And at the suggestion of another member here The model number above is mine (110908 0418), the other picture is one of Blumbly's old mowers (he no longer has it). ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2012/03/full-1147-5533-scan0025_large.jpg)

I don't recall ever seeing a Briggs from that era that had the air cleaner housing a different colour from the cooling air cowl, so there seems to be reason to suspect your air cleaner is not original, or has been repainted. The parts list shows that the 110900 engine family came with both types of air cleaner. It does not show either type as applying to particular Codes, so it looks as if it may have simply been one of the features the buyer (that is, the mower manufacturer) could specify. If that is the case, the Scott Bonnar catalogue is probably the best available evidence.
I suggest you send a PM to Deejay, who has access to some of the old SB data. He might be able to figure it out. If he has nothing, my guess would be you have a 520081, and it should have a snorkel. Possibly the previous tenant wanted a snorkel set-up for another mower with a Briggs engine, so he swapped them over. That would explain why the air cleaner is the wrong colour.

Well this may all be true,as after I done the research on my Scott Bonnar it turn out to be the model that had this round air cleaner. Deejay did upload a sales brochure which did help to work this out. Also my mower didn't have any holes on the handles for a snorkel, just the hole for the throttle control. I know this may not help but you may have a different model to the one I had.
Here for a good time, not a long time.

I do have the mounting holes on the handle for the snorkel, and having a closer look I reckon there was one there in the past. And don't worry Blumbly, it all helps mate ![[Linked Image from dl.dropbox.com]](http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10422577/Mower/2013-04-03%2011.36.42.jpg)

All very interesting....brochures rarely lie,if its a 4hp go with the snorkel set up especially if it has a hole provision in the bars for one. The only other thing is that yours is 1980 thats a lot of mowers and maybee even some more modern changes in that period. My rebel is an early 1979 and closer to the release of this brochure...did the models change in 2 years? probably If it was mine id go the snorkel option....Im sure I have a filter assy, but your on your own with the snorkel and elbow...

From PM - Hi Ed, this is an easy one to sort mate....its all in the handle bars...yours is definitely a Model 520081, 4HP Briggs with the elbow and snorkel. Have a look at the handle design on the machine on the far right; see how the handle turns right up....same as yours....the Cabana (bottom left) turns up a little but not like yours! Wack on an elbow, snorkel and filter and you're good to go! So I'm looking for the elbow and snorkel, not the two stage round assembly. Thanks to Deejay for the help identifying

So you want the orange cover plate, an alloy elbow and a handle mount air cleaner assembly???
I would have no idea if i have the right hose to suit as I dont have a SB here anymore, they all went to God.
Can someone measure one??
I will have a look and see what I have. I should have the orange shield/cover. Mostly the housings break where the rivets hold them on. I know theres an awful looking orange one there, not sure if its any good. A cap with a spring in it might be a bit of an ask. A bit light on with elbows round here, see what I can find.
Cheers.
