What is it with women??? (of course women on this forum are exceptions - because they like mowers!)

As you may or may not know - I've been working up in Port Douglas for the past 8 months and have just come back home to Sydney for my holidays.

But when I got home - my partner had given away our lawn mower??!!?!?

Not any of my "good" lawn mowers - The Triplets are safe - but my everyday run of the mill Victa Key start was gone!!

"I want to mow the lawn - where's the mower?"

"I gave it away"

"What????"

"Well the mower man comes every second week to do the lawn - so we don't need it any more".

"Well now I'm here and the lawn needs mowing. How can I do it without a mower?"

"Call the mower man"

"But I want to do it myself".

"Just buy a new mower".

"But when I go back to Port Douglas the mower man will be mowing the lawn again and you'll give it away".

"Why would I give the mower away??"

Normally I would applaud her suggesting buying another mower but this was different - who thinks like that??!?!

Anyway - this is about kerbside finds.....

Just to console myself about losing a mower - I decided to buy a new Stationary Engine - found a JAP 5 (to go with the JAP 6, 4/3, 4/2, 2a and 2s) out at Arcadia so off to pick it up.

As luck would have it - it was the Council Rubbish Collection time in Galston and lo and behold, as I'm driving through Galston what do I see sitting proudly on top of a pile of junk.....

I haven't had a really good look at it yet, but so far:

  • Doesn't have a throttle cable
  • Wheels are really tight - don't turn very well
  • No air filter
  • NICE BIG FAT SPARK!! smile

I'm guessing about the only reason it was thrown out was because the wheels are so tight its really quite hard to push.

That and the fact that one of the blades has spun right around and is now trapped on the inner side of the blade plate - I bet the whole thing vibrates like crazy when started.

Lose a mower - find a mower - serendipity at its best.

The catcher is in good nick too.

I think I'll chain this one up.....

Put a GPS tracker on it so if it moves outside your property boundary while you are away you can get an alert on your phone and ring the misssus and tell her to go get it back. smirk

Well its going.....

Serviced the carby - new O-Rings, Needle, Diaphragm, Primer Plate, new O-Rings for the manifold (big and small) - and of course gave it a real good clean.

Put some petrol in it fired up almost straight away.

Engine is running really well - but running quite fast - despite the new O-Rings - had a few goes at pulling it apart and putting it back together, trying to be real careful with the assembly - now when I start it it run s quite well, will respond to throttle, but once I go to full throttle, it pretty much stays there frown

Gives me the impression that the throttle cable is getting stuck - but when I pull it apart I can see the throttle working OK.

Hmmmmm

Bloody kerb side mowers!!!

blush

Nice score all the same, you will have to post another pic of the mower after the clean. Well done on getting it up and running.

I hope you told her you paid at least 400 for it.
Just my thought.
