hey all, i have been looking for a cheap new mower recently. i have notcied the sanli lawnbeetle is pretty cheap. it has a plastic chassis, which i reckon is just not on so dose annyone know what the engine mount looks like? the engine is a sanli OHV 350 4 stroke. If i got one i would want to mount it onto a metal base, lets take it for this instance an old masport base.
are these good engines in the first place?

Why not just get a brand new b&s sprint 375 off ebay for $150 and put that on your masport? Keep the oil level up and it should be okay.

I agree with the above, don't waste your money on cheap Chinese rubbish, there's plenty of b&s motors around.

Mate bought one of those crap sanli`s.Do you know how you adjust the height? You remove EACH wheel and reset an insert for higher or lower!! True. That means any/every time you need to height adjust, you remove hubcap, split washer, wheel, spacer.Do your adjusment. Replace wheel. Now you do the other three wheels!! What were they thinking? Better still, why weren`t they thinking.Needless to say he returned the mower (after cutting all the lawn)and stupid as he was innitially, the shop gave him an upgraded model(Gardeners Choice) with normal height lever control, no questions asked. Haha.

Lol I wouldnt do the lawns anymore if I had a honda, I like "testing" my briggs motors hard. Unforunately the 27 year old 3.5 on my little rover at the moment wont die. My grass is very thick and usually moderately high and there is the best part of 3/4 an acre of it. Kepp the oil full and the tank topped up and it wont stop.

Lol I wouldnt do the lawns anymore if I had a honda. yep same, had one, bloody heavy to push and thats a complete honda mower Hey Chris, You're right mate, they are heavy, but that's why they make one that's self-propelled.....makes mowing easy. And don't forget....HONDA....starts first pull, every time!!

The new Honda engines are not as good as the old ones, in my opinon. I had one that threw the timming belt for no reason, and i've had them with carby flooding problems. The Honda powered Victas seem to be the worst ones, although i have heard that Victa won't make a Honda powered one now that Briggs have bought them out.

Hi toranasorus, Thanks for the heads up on that mate; I have had no experience with the new engines, but I know most lawnmowing contractors here in Wagga are still using Hondas, and the ones I know personally, swear by them. I do agree that most engines (including B&S, Tecumseh et al,)were better years ago, and I'm sure that would be true for Honda BTW, It's a shame that another Aussie icon has gone to the Yanks.......I only had 2 problems with my original Scott Bonnar engine.......One was called Briggs and the other......Lol!!

Darryl, I would say 90% of lawnmowing contractors Australia wide would be using Hondas. I have an old 1975 pushrod Honda 5HP that still runs fine, but I did find out the hard way not to use fuel with redex mixed with it that has been sitting longer than 6 months. The redex separates and blocks up the carby. gmax

Hey Wayne, Wow, Redex.....I haven't heard of Redex since Jack Murray was beating through the bush throwing sticks of gelignite out the window of his '47 Ford Mercury in the 1954 Redex Trial 'round Australia!! Lol!! What a blast from the past!!

I worked on a Lawn beetle the other day. The throttle lever had failed, and a carby linkage was damaged. I wonder how long these Chinese Honda pirate engines last? Sure the plastic base is crap, but very light. Easy to lift into the boot of a car. The mower is not safe for the general public. Why not just keep it for now and just see how much use you get from it? Cheers.

I did not notice you had not bought it yet! There is a ceramic two stroke diesel powered small passenger aircraft available. These engines are more efficient than four stroke engines because they do not need elaborate cooling and oiling systems and are very light. We could use the design on small machines and vehicles but the greedy folks in manufacturing industry just do not care.

Hi
I bought a Victa 2 stroke and Sanli Lawn Beetle together on Ebay. The Sanli was running with black smoke(fuel) out the muffler and needing a few pulls to start. After cleaning the air filter which was filthy, it ran smoothly with no issues except it needed a few pulls to start. I found another forum which described how to adjust/bend the carby linkages to get the choke to fully open. This little Sanli now starts first pull and cuts fine. It has obviously not been well serviced and is a couple of years old so I am quite impressed.

i got 1 as well, bought it in a buy of 3 mowers, a petrol shreader and 2 chainsaws
smoked like crazy, drained oil till half way down the dipstick with it resting on the threads
runs like a champ, needed a severe crankcase flush and oil change, took it off the plastic body as a spare for a small rover etc
i think it's only 120cc, but seems quite well made
