Apprentice level 4
G'day everyone,

Found this today thrown out with a bunch of hard rubbish down the road. I was thinking of just leaving it there but I thought the base and handles etc are all the same as the 2 stroke models. I just grabbed it for parts if anything and also the deck is solid with no rust and it's pretty much all there except for some missing bolts here and there.

I have never worked on one of these 4 stroke engines before. I might have a look at it one day and see if it starts. But it looks like it's been messed around with as most of the bolts are missing on the engine covers.

Cheers!

Very simple to work on but delving into Briggs and Strattons opens up a whole new ball game and you need buckets of parts. First step is check the oil, if it has oil, then check if it turns over on the pull start and is not siezed or making bad noises. Then see if the primer squirts oil in through the throat of the carby. Next check if it has spark, and make sure the lever on the carby is not touching the kill switch pin. If it has spark and fuel through the primer give it a pull and see if it will fire

One good thing is it will be easier to move on and attract a higher price as the average Joe view the B&S name as prestige when it's a very average motor.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
