Hello
ODK History Lovers
News Cuttings was Victa’s official news publication to its dealer
network. Introduced in the late 1950s, it would be no more than
a few pages in length.
This
early 1964 issue is of interest because it covers landmarks
in Victa’s history. It’s a positive issue, full of optimism for the 1964
season.
And what an amazing company! Victa’s
Red Telephone was
introduced the previous year, and this
News Cuttings boasts its success …
But wait, there’s more...
What other company do you know that made lawnmowers,
telephones and … aircraft? This issue announced the intention
to build the four-seat
Aircruiser!
Page Two continues the optimism with the reporting of wide
support for Victa’s ‘spare parts policy’. These were the days
when manufacturers could ‘dictate’ dealer policy in dealers
only stocking genuine spare parts. All that would change with
the Trade Practices Act of the early 1970s.
The big confirmation for me was the introduction of Victa’s
first
workshop manual – not just for its dealer network – but for
sale to the public! This was the orange and black front cover job.
A
Page Three article reminds us of how weather dictates the
success of a garden equipment season. We get two great
stories of ‘old Victas’ too.
As a researcher, I noted a small filler story, reminding dealers
of not using older model Victas in advertising. For me, the
safest guide will always be factory advertising.
A great article confirms what I have argued on these forums
time-and-time again: that Australia was making the best rotary
mowers in the world in the 1960s. This was confirmed by the
observations of an internationally-recognised engineer.
Page Four has the regulars for this period:
Service Guide No. 19 on broken valve springs, and the light-hearted
Short Cuts and
Victa Wise.
