I have a McCulloch 14" eager beaver saw that has only been used once or twice. It has set for about 10 years though. I completely disassembled the saw and cleaned it but I can't get any fire what-so-ever. I have replaced the coil and cleaned the contact points on the flywheel. I even covered the kill switch connector with electric tape to keep the thing from grounding out, but still no fire. I can't think of anything else to do. If you have any ideas they would be appreciated. THANKS.

TNT,
Do you have spark now?
Did you replace the fuel filter in the tank?
Did you replace the carby diaphrams?
What setting have you got the high & low mixture screws set at?

If you can answer these questions then I might be able to help you.

Regards,
Bruce

Bruce, thank you for your reply. I still don't have an fire from the spark plug. I haven't bothered to check any of the other stuff until I get the saw to fire. Again thanks for your reply.

TNT,
When you re-assembled the unit did you make sure that you did not short out any of the wires that go to the stop switch. Like when you put the casing together were any of the wires locked into the casing when you screwed it up as this will cause it not to spark.

Bruce

Yes I checked for that as far as I can tell the coil module is not touching any part of the casing. I taped over where the kill switch wire connectes to the coil just to make sure that I wasn't grounded out at that point but still no luck.

Not to butt in on any of Bruce's work, but have you checked your points to make sure they are working properly (reading ohms with points open/closed). Sometimes points get a piece of dirt or corrosion on them that prevent them from "closing" the contact - in otherwords they read "open" all the time. On the same hand they can read "closed" all the time too.
Also, have you checked or changed the condenser? This will also cause no spark problems. The condenser requires a special instrument to test the condition.
