Went past the mower shop a couple of times this week. First time there was two powertorque mowers, both with those junk steel bases, out of about eight mowers. Today one powertorque out of about twelve customer's mowers, the rest were insipid four strokes mostly pumped out by you know who. The PT was one of the ones I saw the other time.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

The rate over here (out of about 20 mowers) was - 2 tecumseh, 2 chonda, 4-5 honda, 1 chinese block PT on steel base, 1 125cc on an edger.

The rest was briggs

Nice to hear of a couple of Tecumseh machines. Keeps the Briggs at bay!!

It will be interesting to see where the trend heads, will Briggs maintain the majority of sales, will the Chondas take over or will people be swayed by the Victa name with a Briggs on it. I don't think Tecumesh has any brand following, most people would not have heard of it.

G'day all members

I am compelled to say something here...

Briggs is a survivor.
Their history shows that ...

https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/u...iggs-stratton-history-1980s-booklet.html

The thing is, Briggs have copied other great makes - like Honda -
in entering end-product production.

Second, it has bought key end-user garden product makers.

Briggs owns a number of key garden product brands.
Most importantly, it is a full-line maker of small engines.

I'm not sure who else does that today.
I would describe Briggs as a tenacious Terrier.

A guy was using a bottom tier Lawnkeeper by Victa with a Briggs yesterday and the air pump certainly sounded good for a Chinese made 60 year old design.
Briggs & Stratton are probably record holders for employing such an old engine casting so long.

G'day there Tyler,

I was reading through this thread and I noticed that you were working on this mower a while ago, I was just wondering did this mower still have the original "commando" decal on it?

I am trying to find one of these that still might have the decal on it to maybe take a photo and measure the dimensions to make a copy of the decal to put back onto my mower.

It's been a while since you posted this but any help would be much appreciated. I am thinking it was the same mower as the one in my avatar, it's my original FC side pull Commando.

Cheers!

Zip a dee doo dah, zip a dee ay, another trash picked Victa, hip hip Hooray!
