Hi all,

After my recent victa deck swap over (converting a good vantage deck in to a 4 blade mulching disk with a vsx160 on it off a knackered steel deck) I had a red cowl on a blue base. Functional, but not pretty. I had some left over vht vinyl dye in black, so I cleaned up the cowl and sprayed some of this on. The can said nothing about chemical resistance or heat resistance, but I thought Id give it a go anyway. I only let it cure for 24 hours (because im inpatient) but it has stood up to full operating temperature and fuel all over it. Ill give it a season and see how it goes. It certainly looks better for now anyway.

Cheers,

John

G-day jds303,
don't blame you for doing that as it would look a bit off in that combination, unless I represents a sports team you support.
Could we see a piccie of both the cover, and the can of paint you used?

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Hi Mowerfreak,

Heres how the cowl looks (was red) and what I used to do it. Ill eventually fix the snorkel, gaffer tape in use at the moment. Looks a bit rough as it just had a squirt down after use.
Cheers,

John

Hi jds303,
maybe that will bond better than other paints as vinyl is like plastic.
I came across a chassis like that with the exact same wheels, but with a Briggs on it, but by the time I came back with the car, it had gone. I should have hidden it in someone's front yard! Still rue the day I lost that score!

Hi Mowerfreak,

I was actually given this deck and another similar one but with 8 rear wheels and 7 fronts by a local mower shop I go to occasionally, both had dead Briggs engines on them. I was pretty lucky there.
Im pretty happy with the finish on the cowl, and it was super easy to put on. Hopefully it lasts well.

Wow John you must have cultivated a good relationship with that shop, as they are not usually the type to give stuff away, even if it's near worthless to them.
I found one left out the front of a local mower shop with a dead Briggs and unfortunately discovered rust had started penetrating the chassis near the left handle mount (common problem) so, after taking the good handles off it and swapping them with other ones, I turned it into a trolley using an old council recycling container.
