They are the
Sales Promotion Aids offered to the Victa
dealer network for the 1963 season.
CONTEXT: -In 1963 rebellious teens gave the Beatles No. 1 and No. 2 hits in
Australia with
I Want to Hold Your Hand and
She Loves You.
The sun-loving beach and surf crowd would have surfed to
Pipeline (No.5),
Bambora (No. 13),
Surf City (No. 22),
and
Wipe Out (No. 23). The groovy babies would have gone
for Roy Orbison's
In Dreams (No. 14) and
Blue Bayou (No. 21).
Seniors and the bewildered would have reminisced on a
Jack
to a King (No. 4), and
Summer Holiday (No. 25).
Music acts as a time capsule of ... us. This was a glimpse of
Australia in 1963. So, who was Victa most like in this crowd?
Why ... it was
No. 1 in lawnmowers and, having been around
since 1950, it would have been a rebellious teenager. Right?
Yes and no. The 1963 season was a big one for Victa - it
signified the introduction of the first rear-discharge lawnmowers
that would dominate the mower landscape into the future.
Victa's clever marketing made it
everything to
everyone. These were
the days when Victa was an exciting company, with its mowers, Red
Phone, homes, and aircraft. WOW!
