The great Australian company
Scott Bonnar was prudent enough to take
on board the sole Australian distributorship of the
British Allen & Sons of
Oxford motor scythes
prior to World War II. It was a very lucky and
profitable decision. We're talking c1939.
This placed Scott Bonnar in a leading position after that terrible war's end
and circumstances favoured the Allen Motor Scythe on these shores when
they were re-introduced in about
1948.
The
powered Scythe played an important role in Australia prior to the rotary
revolution that would unfold in the 1950s. The powered scythe was the best
way to clear Australian bushlands. They could handle high grasses and
bracken and the technology was well-understood - having been around
since the early 19th Century in agricultural applications.
Allen was the leader of the pack - robust and reliable - and with a
tremendous range of accessories.
Popular, known and respected here, the British Allen helped make Australia.
