Hey everyone, during the week i have found 4 brush cutters in hard rubbish. 2 old ryobi's, one Mc Culloch eager beaver 200A and a Jonesred GT 21A. all four have grease and oil on the crankcase, cylidner, carby and exhaust. what could have caused this? should i try and start some now or pull them all apart to check out for any problems? ( i have started to pull apart the green ryobi) ![[Linked Image from i181.photobucket.com]](http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x315/jam2727/Image659.jpg) Cheers

Hi, Its probably just old 2 stroke fuel that has evaporated leaving oily sludge,I would try to start them. If they have spark & compression you should be able to get them running without too much work. gmax

hey gmax, today i got a syringe and the fuel and injected a bit into 3 of the brushcutters except the green ryobi which i have taken the carby off. the Mc culloch 200A fired brilliantly and lasted for about 5 seconds on the little fuel i injected. it has a full tank where im getting the 40:1 mix at the moment but the fuel line is old and crusty so it leaks out quite a bit. im very happy with it. the jonesred also fires but for about half a second without fuel in the tank. the ryobi grass scorpian dose not start up. i have some pictures of the cylinder and crank of the ryobi lawn hornet. there is carbon on the crank so should i be worried about that? ![[Linked Image from i181.photobucket.com]](http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x315/jam2727/Image667.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i181.photobucket.com]](http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x315/jam2727/Image668.jpg) my stihl FS 56 brushcutter has these strange screws. i have tried screwdrivers and allan keys but none of those work. do i need a special tool for the stihl? ![[Linked Image from i181.photobucket.com]](http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x315/jam2727/Image675.jpg) last thing, on both of the ryobi's there are stickers that say 77dBa. what dose this mean?

ok thanks gmax. i have just been doing some more testing with my mcullocch 200A. it seems that the fuel line is just okay and that there is a small amount of fuel leaking out of the carby. but it wont run in idle. i have to open the throttle to keep it running. seing i dont know much about brushcutters is this normal?

You brushcutter should idle, your fuel filter in the fuel tank could be blocked, the filter screen in the carby could also be blocked. I would dismantle the carby & give it a clean, is it a Walbro carby? if it is, you can get a service manual from this link, http://wem.walbro.com/distributors/goodluck gmax

ok thanks gmax thats great. i have fiddled around with the carby throttle leaver where it connects to the butterfly. i turned the screw to keep the butterfly a little open when you dont have the throttle on, and it idles. but i will dismantle the carby and check the fuel filter. the carby is starting to leak even worse now. and it idles fairly roughly but is that just because its small and not mounted onto a frame?
cheers

Rough idling could be caused by fouled spark plug, wrong carby mixture setting, dirty air filter, blocked muffler spark arrestor screen or low compression. With 2 stroke motors i always remove the spark arrestor screen in the muffler, they seem to run better without them. Anyway give the carby a good clean & see how it runs then.

thanks again gmax
i did fiddle a little with the carby mixture settings that could be the problem, how do i fille around with the mixture setting properly? i did take the muffler arrestor screen and give it a clean out it was really blocked. i havny yet been able to get the spark plug out with a spanner and i dont have a deep socket set as of yet. but i will check for that.
cheers again

Try this for your mixture settings, The procedure is as follows for a walbro carby.
Step 1: Bottom both screws.
Step 2: Back off the 'H' (high) screw one turn.
Step 3: Back off the 'L' (low) screw one and a quarter turns.
Step 4: Start machine then open 'L' screw till you do not have any hesitation (or very little) going up to full RPM'S.
Step 5: On full throttle adjust till the machine is running at maximum RPM'S and then back off the 'H' screw by 1/8 of a turn.
see how that goes, cheers gmax
