Hi to all where ever you are, new member Seafordphil here, Phil from Seaford Vic. I am new to OutdoorKing, came across the site when Googling for information on old Victa mowers. I have recently purchase a few old Victa 18 Specials. I have an interest in taking them apart, cleaning and painting them, getting them going is another thing, not that good on the mechanical side!
Just trying to work my way around this site. I have some questions I would like to ask but need guidance on which forum to ask them in.
I have already gained some information from past threads/posts?.
Looking forward to being part of your community .
Regards Phil
Hello Phil, Welcome to ODK. We look forward to helping out where we can and seeing progress shots of your machines and restos. Most of the forum topics are self explanatory but in the event that you post your question in the wrong place we'll move it to the appropriate area, so don't worry about that too much. Once again, welcome aboard. Regards, Ted
Thank you Norm, looking forward to any support you may be able to give me in the future.
Thank you Ted for your welcome.
Besides the Victa 18,s a Victa Falcon ( with no carby)and Utility complete have found there way into my yard. Also picked up a motor with Hurricane on it, I have no idea of the history of any of these so any help with them would be great.
Have attached photo (hopefully) of my first 18 now have 5 of them!
Regards for now
Phil
Hi Phil, what are your plans for them, wheels are always an issue for them if you want to do full restos. Air filter canisters can also be a bit of an issue
Norm, hopefully do them up the best I can. Have seen photos of other peoples
With different colours, several shades of green, also a blue.
Have absolutely no thoughts or intentions of any monetary gain, just the fun of trying how to put everything together.
Would like some better wheels and air filter canisters, but I am looking out for them and other things all the time
Phil
Phil and that can take as long as you are prepared to spend, I restored on that had sat on a compost heap for 20 years, but repairing the corrosion ended up taking months, but it was the fact that it was this blokes fathers mower that he wanted as much of it be kept original. Only thing I ended up replacing was the blade carrier and the blades. Looked stunning when it was finished. I put a pic of it on here somewhere but I have no idea where it ended up.
Norm or any other member. What is the accepted fuel oil mixture ratio for the Victa 18' specials?
What's on the stickers, what is today's conversion.
Thanks in advance
Phil
Hi Phil, 25 to 1 is the ratio and I do have some of the tank stickers here somewhere As for todays mix 150mm of oil to 4 liters of petrol and no ethanol
Thank you again Norm,
Once again for late 50's Victa specials, any particular spark plug favoured over another.
Can a rattle gun be used to try to start the mowers.
Also semi synthetic 2 stroke oil, against full synthetic 2 stroke oil any preferred oil by members
I 'd like to get others advice rather than just guessing myself.
Hoping someone can steer me in the right direction
Seafordphil
Rattle gun won't start them Phil, it just impacts, you need a decent drill to provide constant power to them as the come and go over compression.. I have always used the cheapest oil, just remember it doesn't stay in there very long not like the oil is going to get contaminated and break down with extended use. Plug, whatever works, not like you are going to be mowing for hours with these.
