Hello ODK History Lovers
The 18" Model 31 Spin-Cut was Scott Bonnar's second domestic rotary lawnmower.
Introduced in late 1958, it was Sid Bowditch's last rotary design before his retirement
from this great SA company.

This machine was so different to the original 16" Model 22 Spin-Cut. Larger cut,
larger rear wheels, steel chassis, powerful engine, lever height adjusters, folding
handle - this was a Victa Model 5 chaser and go-getter [Victa's Model 5 'Special'
was the most successful AUS rotary of the 1950s].

Scott Bonnar were defining themselves as being at the top of their game. This is
the first use of SB's 4 hp Model 201 engine and SB claimed it to be, "the most
powerful 18" rotary lawnmower on the market
". Also, of note is the folding handle,
short snorkel tube and the 3-blade cutter. Brilliant!

Of particular note, the Spin-Cuts were never toe-cutters [the Victa chassis design
Victa made famous in the 1950s] - but skirted, side-discharge rotaries!

At this time Scott Bonnar had factory offices in NSW, VIC, SA, and QLD.
It had a Distributor in WA and a Principal Agent in TAS. Scott Bonnar had
distributors in New Zealand and South Africa.

Most of all, Scott Bonnar proclaimed at this time that they were the,
"Manufacturers of the largest range of petrol and electric power mowers in the
Southern Hemisphere. Scott Bonnar can supply a mower for every need.
"

What a bold claim ... but TRUE!

TO BE CONTINUED ...

PART TWO - The Brochure
This Model 31 Spin-Cut brochure is from my collection and is in very good condition.
Like other Scott Bonnar model brochures of the day, this is a small bi-fold, measuring
approx. 20cm x 13cm (folded).

This brochure is probably the original - and only - brochure printed for the Model 31.
Of particular note is the sunburst design of the first page. I guess this 'S' (for Spin-cut)
radiating grass clippings design would go on to influence the new Scott Bonnar
'sunburst logo' of a decade later.

As always, available as a download for personal use.
