My first engine yay

International Harvester - Type H, basically one of the hundreds of re-badged Ronaldson Tippett engines but I don't care. Bought her as it is seen now, not much done from my end but a wash and quick scrub of the maggy.

This one is tank cooled which is a bit novel but I think I may need to change the position of the hoses for better circulation and cooling.

Mr Smart Guy here was cleaning the carb over the weekend to try get her running and broke the fuel pick up .. now that's a bugger for sure, but luckily I found a generous soul with a full carb / manifold that wasn't required their end so we'll be totally back in business in a few days.

Can't wait to hear her chugging away and I'll get some updated photo's on once I'm done with a little sprucing up in the mean time wink

Hi Geoff
A fond memory as a kiddie were the rural shows that displayed these old engines.
There is something calming about the sight, sounds and smells of these old engines.

It was for this reason that I acquired a little Sunshine and a much larger Buzacott.
I donated both to a State museum.

Cheers

Hey Jack,
Thanks for sticking your little Sundial up, she looks an absolute treat in the red livery do you still have that one at least??

Starting to get a bit wound as my "new" carb should arrive this week .. 1 or 2 nights polishing up the brass and hopefully it's fitted for some weekend action.

Have set the timing as per manual but can't get even a pip out of it possible issues with the last one but as I'm so unfamiliar with these things so far, I really wouldn't know.

Very lucky to have a great machinery club close by, the VP has already offered his assistance so I'm sure I'm in good hands.

Well, the replacement carb arrived today, time to get ready for the weekend Inter love in There's still a little baked on paint so I'll have to get the paint stripper onto it at a later date.

Actually, I just salvaged the pick up tube off the replacement unit a very nervous half hours work removing it from the old manifold then splitting it to refurb the check valve visions of a 2nd broken tube haunting me.

Thought it would take me a couple of days to get it ready but everything went swimmingly laugh

G'day Geoff
The best stories on ODK are the ones that have a resolution.
It's also great to see that 'generous souls' still exist.

It is the generous souls that give back - like the members of these great ODK forums!

This is a good story you tell.

Geoff, Ronnaldson Tippetts were used on Lawnmowers!

Well my friends the news is good .. after taking some advice about compression and fitting a "new" magneto, the spark improved and I could feel the engine 200% better.

There was some lag in the maggy due to great magnets and aging couplings so I thought I would nudge the timing a little on the advanced side to take this up a bit.

I took this time out to make a few much needed gaskets and replace the hose clamps to the tank, still have a couple more to go and new hoses of course but she's good enough for now.

The fuel tank leaked waaaay too much but half a tube of Metal Epoxy has completely sorted that, for the short term at least.

A problem from the beginning was the amount of fuel coming out the carb and a very wet piston head when the plug was removed but I finally got a tone out of her!

A few more cranks and I got enough action to crank in the fuel .. the more I leaned out, the better the tone .. my god I've fixed it!!!

The rev's are a bit low and she sounds so much happier running a b it faster but here's some IHC action on my you tube channel please enjoy

Thanks for joining me on this journey Jack .. now I can breath easy, I'm gonna check out the R&T mower laugh
