Hello ODK History Lovers
The Cyclo Motorscythe was a small (22-inch) sickle mower that sold in Australia
in the early 1950s. Little seems to be known about them.

Made by Cylinder Components of Birmingham, this is another example of the many
sickle mowers that arrived here post WW11.

The advantage of the sickle mower was that, by design, it could cut much higher
grasses than any reel mower could. The disadvantage was that maintenance
would have been high - having a multiplicity of moving cutting blades acting against
a fixed bottom blade - a bit like an electric hair razor on steroids.

This was a crossover design ... essentially an agricultural design that could be used
in the horticultural sphere - to cut grasses for aesthetic purposes.

PART TWO - The machine

The Cyclo Motorscythe sold in Australia from about 1954.
Powered by a 70cc Villiers 2G 2-stroke, the Cyclo was distributed by
Thomas Herbert and Company of 139 Clarence Street, Sydney.

The advertisements I have found are identical and all come from
the great Nock & Kirby's Department Store.
