Hi all, picked up a Bolens mower here with a 16hp Briggs twin opposing 108deg. Was running a bit rough so i thought i'd tune it up a bit. Got a new air filter and started playing with the carb. Found out there is only an idle speed screw and an idle mix screw. So i got it idling very nice but after that it starves for fuel when you give it some throttle. I pulled it apart and blew through each hole with the compressor but no difference, once it warms up quite a bit it seems to go better (better response etc) but i would like to know what to do to get it working properly from the time i start it. My next thouoght was to buy some carb cleaner and soak everything in it? or spray it in each hole and leave it for a while? not sure how it works, never used it. Maybe there is something else i can do. Motor infi is:

Model
402707

Type
0160 01

Code
85051512

Any help appreciated...

Thanks

Gary.

smythie,

Did you check the throttle shaft bushes and for wear on the throttle shaft as this could cause air leaks throwing out the mixture. As it has a fixed high speed jet make sure that you have it screwed down correctly.

Also did you replace the pump diaphragms?

We do have a workshop manual that can be uploaded to the parts list and manuals area but it is over 5MB. If you wanted just the carby info uploaded it would be a lot smaller size. cheers2
