Hello everyone,

I have searched the forums and can't find the answer to this puzzle. A man has posted this mower on Facebook and I've never seen one of this burgundy/maroon colour.

I suggested to him that it's likely been repainted at some point, especially given the height adjuster is a matching colour.

Then another commentor said he has one in an identical colour, but a solid deck with a B&S engine date stamped October 1978. Curious if anyone had any ideas whether this was actually a colour or someone went rogue at some point in SB history?!

Cheers!

Hello heady
It's not that much of a puzzle.

This is not a SB colour ... it's been repainted without any doubt.
The machine probably has a colourful history.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Jack. Very much appreciate the response. I should have trusted what I'd read on here but when a second person claimed to have the same colour I second guessed myself.

No doubt someone had a business in the 80s respraying SBs disco-purple.

Hi Heady
Many thanks to you for asking the question!
I think we try and be 'myth-busters' here.

The Model 45 is, as the lawyer might say, sui generis ... in a class by itself.
It has been bought in volume over a long period of time. It has been reproduced
in copy forms over the world today. It has been well documented.

It is a collector machine and a modern lawnmower (in original or copy variants).

Two wrongs do not make a right...
I feel you have nipped myth in the bud here, and everyone benefits.

Cheers
