Hi all, I am in the process of stripping down and restoring my Scott Bonnar 17" mower. From previous threads I gather my scotty is fairly old as it has the solid engine deck and the old winged decal on the handle bar.

my mower only has one brass ID plate- mower no. 45 - 16818.

the engine is a briggs and stratton model- 80202 type- 0880-01 code- 8004903.

As i stripped off the red paint that had been applied to it, i found that it has a 3hp decal on it. the previous owner said it was a 2.5hp. Can anyone confirm if its a 3hp or 2.5hp as i want to make sure the new decals i apply are accurate.

I would go by the decal and not what the owner has told you

Briggs spec on that was 4..6 Ft-lbs @3100 rpm so it is actual 2.715 hp @ 3600 rpm.
