Hi,
One of these was being dumped, so I asked poliely if I could take it to tinker with. No spark, so I cleaned the coil flywheel.......
new fuel.
No compression. Took off rocker cover, the size of a matchbox......
Conrod was not sitting in its rocker. So we undid the rocker, checked if it was bent and put it back........
Didn't know the settings but father in law said that's enough.......
It fired up, not done hardly any work.
It's nice and quiet and powerful to use.......
cheers

don't be afraid to ask............

Yes NormK. Smallest 4 stroke I have seen, like a toy but it has some power, and starts first pull.

It's not running well, so I ordered a Walbro kit, Chinese one from Taiwan,, , less that $3 .
Probably 20 parts and 5 plus gaskets.....

I now just have to install the gear on this little carb.......

THAT's a four stroke? Good find. I have always wondered if Makita ever made the engines themselves or contracted out. I am aware they acquired Dolmar of Germany. Not sure that sits well with me as these two very respected makers come from two very differing worlds.
Three dollars?? You can't even get a small latte for that! And Taiwan made stuff is very good these days.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Not sure whether Makita made the engine, but the carb is a Walbro WYL from USA.
I am stoked. I downloaded a instruction from Walbro and watched a couple of videos on Walbro carbs on youtube.....
Installed the kit, just wanted to recheck all the gaskets order.... I had it wrong, my computer crashed a couple of times.....
Got it going, put the gaskets in right.

It started 2nd pull, ran smooth...................... I whipper snipped the backyard.............
Thanks to ODK Walbro and Youtube...............
speedy

now I'll have a go at the ROK whipper snipper

Got the ROK going today, 25cc two stroke.
The carb was a HUAYA Z090, looks like a Walbro copy, even exactly same inside.
Took carb apart gently , kept gaskets, cleaned with Carb cleaner from supercheap, blew holes out,
It started..... so i'm happy.

If you use the old metering diaphragm it could be the problem as a stiffen one can hold the metering lever partially open. It would also advisable to pressure test the needle/seat area as I had a few clones to leak around the seat.

As for being a clone it is more likely a Zama clone as I haven't any Walbro clones in my area. When I looked up the metering for the Makita it does look like the Walbro version.

Here is a link to the parts manual.

Have you dealt with the Irish made Tillotsons? My old 31cc Ryobi weed whipper pulls like a train with one.
