Would somebody have information on the big black chokes that were used on the 18's, model types etc that used them.

Many thanks

Steve.

Hi Cyberjack,

Yes, that's the one I'm referring to. I'm just interested in knowing when they may have started using this particular type of choke.

Thanks, Steve.

Hi tyro185 and Jack,
Going by the parts list above I would say Model 4 but definitely I have seen them on Model 5. The air filter element is no longer available, whole assemblies appear on EBay now and then.

Thanks Paul,

Would you or anybody else know if these black chokes might have been fitted to the Department Store Victa's at all?

Hello Tyro and Paul,

I don't know if this helps, but the first ads I have depicting
this aircleaner date from September, 1959 suggesting the 1960 Range.

Here is an 2016 auction site record:-

That is an interesting question.
My guess is ... NO!

I say that because I believe that this air-cleaner was significantly
more expensive to produce.

All those 'secret' Store Brand Victas I have seen, or recorded, have been
fitted with higher handle-bar snorkels.

Perhaps a member has more precise knowledge?
It's a great question ...

I say that because this design was fantastic - in combining
a choke control with a massive filter surface area.

I suspect marketing killed it off.

this is interesting as well, alternate air filter when stocks are low in production for the large black filter.

Hi Tyro

That's great information for this topic.
As a primary document, it gives evidence of use years ... 1957-1961.

For whatever reason, Victa moved back to the extended snorkel,
but with a smaller snorkel filter.

Many thanks.
