Hello ODK History Lovers
4-stroke engines that powered AUS rotary lawnmowers started to appear in 1959.
It is fair to say that the 1960s consolidated their use on all types of lawnmowers.

Local production seems to have been limited to the great manufacturer, James N Kirby.
Kirbys made many licensed American Tecumseh models, the most popular being the VK engines.

PART TWO - Operator Instructions
Here is an early Operator Instructions for the VK30, c1967.
Of particular note is the use of the safer Trip-release wind-up starter by this time,
but a recoil starter was also offered. Also note the snorkel air filter unit ...
suggesting that these, too, were made by Kirbys for AUS lawnmowers.
