Hi all. I thought I would finally get out the old mower that I picked up off the cleanups about five years ago and put under the house. Looks pretty beat up but it started OK after I cleaned the plug. Even cut grass, sorta. The friction plate for the drive wheels seemed to be stuck on but I pulled it apart and played/adjusted and it stops moving now when lever is released . I will stop playing with it and get some advice here on what I should do to get it in decent operating condition. I would like to do a full resto on it at sometime if the consensus is it's worth it but I have a few projects to be done first, namely a kitchen and back of house Reno... Happy wife etc. So to start with getting it operational is the priority. Looks like it has an incorrect throttle controller fitted but I look forward to comments and suggestions on what I should do going forward. Some of the pics and info I've seen on this forum are amazing, really great work being done.

Hi Eric,

Welcome to the ODK Forums.
You are certainly in the right place with this machine.

I guess that I will get Mod CyberJack to move this thread to the "Restoring and Modifying" sub-forum as it will go way past the Introductions area in the long run.

Just quickly I will say that this will most probably be a March built 1977 machine with the engine being assembled on the 21st of September 1976 and with shipment time and the Christmas Break closure of the Thebarton plant it would've been manufactured early in the new year.

Anyway I'll leave it at that point for time being until this thread is moved, once again a big warm welcome to this wonderful medium that we call the Outdoor King.

Cheers,
BB.

G'day Eric and friends
A warm welcome from me too.

I have made the changes as asked for by Mod BB.

p.s. I think the image with the Jacaranda was spoilt by the wheelie bin.
The air cleaner should be re-positioned for fuel cap access.
I'm too picky.

Thanks everyone, appreciate the welcome. As I said previously I would like to get machine up and running with a view to a full resto at some point, but she will need a fair bit of panel beating to get it straight again! So to what extent do I need to go to in regards to inspection and replacement of parts so I don't wreck it? I've seen advice on other posts regarding checks for stress fractures on the rails, but is this less likely on the smaller ones? I figure one of the front cogs attached to the cutting cylinder looks pretty thrashed, the one attached to chain that goes to the roller friction plate. The engine goes alright, not too much smoke and relatively smooth for something that's been sitting round for a while so I probably won't go too hard on that to star with more the cutting and running gear. Is there a thread that talks about general maintenenance and tolerances/ tensions so you guys don't have to repeat what I'm sure you have already said before? Again thanks all for replies and guidance and suggestions.

Hello Eric

The operator manual is here:
https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=64934

This is a 17" machine so you will need to look at the frame for cracks.
Yes, the reel sprocket is at the end of its life. They are available.

A competent sharpen and set should see this one running nicely.
