Hi Scott and BB
This is the first time, I recall, that we have recorded a 45053.
It's most certainly a Rover 45 chassis with an older engine.
This is great forensic work Scott and BB have given us.
We have a Rover SB brochure dated 8/84 that suggests only the 17"
was being made (no ref to a 20"). This new evidence suggests that
20" were being made by Rover prior to that date.
The earlier handle bar logo (I can't remember what BB calls it)
"Razor Logo"suggests the handle bracket is much older - even before the pentagon logo
of the late 1970s.
The best interpretation is that BB has suggested - this machine
is a bitsa - but certainly restorable!
I think there may be an easy explanation for this.
The original machine must have been poorly stored in the open weather.
[The corrosion on the maker's plate is extraordinary]
BB has identified the paint as Apple Green.
Its spray painted - not powder coated like the later Kermit Green jobs.
I can't say I understand the blue undercoat.
