Hello vint_mow
Many thanks for the detailed information.

It does demonstrate how cunning and resourceful restorers have to be.
Its amazing what can be improvised by walking around Bunnings or Supercheap.

Brilliant

Thanks Jack,

I often get strange looks from the staff of hardware stores because I am trying to explain my use for a certain part, which goes against all their preconceptions, like adapting a common plumbing fitting to use on a lawnmower. It is a foreign idea to some people, and I have even had staff tell me that I will void all warranty by using a part for something it was not specifically designed to do.

Perhaps a better air filter to suit the Bendix would be these ones, especially the one that has the rubber ends. They can be made to fit snugly into the old Bendix canister to produce a tight seal. The neck on these filters also allows for the necessary air flow at the base of the old Bendix canisters.

Hi vint_mow

I noticed a SC engine appears on a pump at the National Heritage Rally, 2017.

G'day all,

Unifilter also manufacture oiled foam breather filters, http://www.uniflow.com.au/contents/en-us/d15_breatherpod.html

They also have the capability to make custom 'pod' filters, which might be worth following up.

Cheers,
Gadge

Interesting set up for the pump! I like the home made fuel tank on that one Jack!

I'll follow up on those filters. Thanks Gadge.

A word of caution on the condensers. Evidently there are two different ones with the same number! Both have the base numbers Bosch 1-237-330-037. One is a short condenser about 18mm x 23mm diameter. This is the one that you need for these mowers. The other is a longer one, about 1/2" longer and is a smidgen wider. I purchased some brand new and found that even though they had the same numbers, only the short ones would work. They have extra numbers on the end for the long and short ones and are apparently made for different kinds of engines. I also bought two Bosch GB550 (the modern equivalent for Bosch 1-237-330-037) and one turned out to be the long type and the other the short one. The long condensers with that number do not seem to work. So a word of caution, don't just go by the number. Make sure you order the short one 18mm x 23mm diameter.
