G'day folks,
Just a heads-up if anyone east of Melbourne is after a Scotty.

Saw this one in Vinnies Op Shop, Argyle St Traralgon yesterday. Didn't have a phone with me, so no pics.

It's a twin rail 17" SB45, with a 2000 made 3hp side valve Briggs on it - an obvious re-engine.
Has catcher, tho' it could do with a bit of panelbeating. Good life left in reel; didn't check the bedknife. Does appear to have some clutch issues; engine side was loose on the shaft - it's the twin set screw type. Rails looked OK, to a cursory inspection. Overall, a pretty clean unit, with little or no surface rust, even on the landroll.

They've got $220 on it, FWIW.

Cheers,
Gadge

Hi Gadge,

$220 in an Op shop is the reason why it's still there. Now if it was $120 ~ $150 it would go.

Cheers,
BB.

G'day BB,
Yeah, I was a bit gobsmacked to see it there at all. This is a 'warehouse size' shop, though; who knows where that Scotty originated!

Cheers,
Gadge

Hi Gadge,

Many Op Shops are running under the guise of a Church based organisation just like the Salvo's and thus many people leave their entire estates to these churches. Only the Salvo's won't sell stuff like this due to the liability factor, instead it simply goes to market sellers that have a deal going with them and they get a cut from it. Instantly the liability factor is extinguished.

Cheers,
BB.

G'day BB,

Yeah, it's been very noticeable here, that in the last year, the local Salvos shops have all dropped electrical appliances from their range.

Some of the other local Op Shops still have them [Lifeline in particular], but they have in-house 'Test & Tag' guys, I believe.

Cheers,
Gadge

$220 form a opp shop is way over priced for a mower. it was donated so they payed nothing for it

opp shops use to be a place for the needy to by things cheap many years ago

nowdays there like antique dealers with prices to boot

even the needy can no longer afford to shop there frown
