Pretty small niche market, Norm - and the Chinese go more for volume.

For another more common but now NLA Victa wheel, I will be surprised if we don't see copies of these out of China, though;

FleaBay prices on these have gone skywards, since they became unavailable through the trade.

Cheers,
Gadge

Hi Gadge, probably right, the Chinese want volume, maybe the Indians could knock these up on the side of the road, they do some beautiful work on hand made stuff. Not too flash on engine/gearbox parts where near enough is good enough for them

Heh heh Norm,
Those aren't the subcontinental artisans' most impressive imitations, though.

For over the century mark now, the artisans of the Northwest Frontier region, on the borders of Pakistan [as it is since 1947] and Afghanistan, have been hand fettling very convincing replicas of the Brit Army Martini-Henry single shot rifles.

These were superseded by the Mk1 Lee-Metford .303 bolt action rifle in 1888, BTW.

They're known as 'Khyber Pass Martinis', and are very faithful replicas dimensionally. Of course, the metallurgy of the steel/s used is very suspect indeed, and I certainly wouldn't want to fire one, even with an original type 'black powder' low pressure cartridge!

Cheers,
Gadge

Gadge, it was only last year they stopped building the Morris Oxfords and still with drum brakes, because that is the way they were made in England

Well Norm, as you know, they're still building Royal Enfield 500cc motorcycles!

Then there's the Carberry 1000cc V-twin, which is based on a lot of Indian Enfield 500 bits... http://www.carberrymotorcycles.com/

But that's in a factory setup - the rifles I've mentioned were/are made pretty much entirely with hand tools, in workshops with no power machinery or machine tools at all - maybe a foot treadle powered lathe, at most.

Cheers,
Gadge

Hi Gadge, due to the shrewdness of my missus I didn't do much dough on the Carberry but a few friends got burnt heavily
