Hello. Can you please help me identify the model of this engine? It is on a rotary hoe, and I am in New Zealand. The label says Kirby Tecumseh. The only numbers I can see are L1245 on an aluminium (serial number?) plate, and 19-F-151 and ESS at the base of the engine. From what I have read in the forum I think it may be a Tecumseh HK25?
I am trying to find a new governor spring and a fuel tank (old one very rusted).

There are two governor springs listed here:

But I' not sure which is the right one (and they don't look like the one that is currently on the machine: they look too short).
And from the pictures below, it seems that there are some other springs that balance the throttle cable that are missing.
I have cleaned out the carbie, and it runs. I'm proud to own it - I picked it up off the side of the road because the last owner couldn't get it going, and I would like to restore it back to useful life. Any help appreciated. Thank you.

Greetings KenNavigk, and welcome to the ODK Forums.

That one would have to be either a 2.5hp 125cc HK25, or a 3hp HK30.
L.1284 is the Kirby 'Specification Number' of that engine.

On that basis, I would plump for a HK30, as there is a HK30 with a very close spec number pictured in this past thread; https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=21282

I don't know of any parts lists or service manuals available for this engine; the 1982-published Gregory's #199 Small Engines repair manual I have only covers the HK25.

There is a Victa HK25 parts list available in this thread, though; https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=72511
Victa uses the Kirby part numbers, by the way.

In any case, Kirby exited small engine manufacture in the 1970's, so the only parts still available are US Tecumseh ones that happen to fit [Kirby did some mix-and-match of Lauson/Tecumseh components, in the engines they built in Oz]. As far as I know, there is no comprehensive part number cross-reference available for these.

This engine rebuild thread has some very useful info; https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=37736

Cheers,
Gadge

Thanks Gadge. And thanks for the really helpful links. Forgot to mention that the fuel tank has the name Morrison on it. The spec number in the Victa link of L1283 for a HK30 suggests that mine is also a HK30 with a spec number L1284. The link you gave has been the closest looking photo I've seen so far.
So I'm guessing I'm not going to find a new spring and will have to keep using what I have, or use trial and error with a new one. The old spring felt really loose so I, foolishly perhaps, shortened it by a around a quarter. It seems to run okay but I wonder if I'm not getting maximum revs now.
Thanks again. Ken

G'day Ken and GM Gadge

Gadge did quite a bit of work there.
So, this is a Morrison Mini-Hoe.

I found this one in my records.
The HK25 & HK30 are essentially the same capacity and short block.

Hello All
It would appear that the Morrison Mini-hoe was sold here as
a Scott Bonnar in the mid-to-late 1970s.

This was when the NZ Challenge Corp (who owned Morrison at this time)
also owner Scott Bonnar.
