I wonder if members might be able to point me in the right direction for a fuel tank?

Corvette 500. B & S. engine. Model 12F802, type 1911B1, code 01010558.

The fuel tank has split around the top seam & I have had no luck searching for a tank on www

At worst, I suppose, I could run it filled only 1/4 tank but that won't fix the problem.

Any assistance would be appreciated

Hello John A,
I'd try a plastic weld job with a solder iron, I just did a carb a couple of days ago. You clean the area, run the heat down the crack and push sides in to seal, test it with water.

These tanks are known for splitting around the seam.

Yes Gadge, I've tried melting the seam with a soldering iron & using plastic glues etc without any long term success.

I have one of those Victa 500's here, never looked at it, apparently screw on the bottom of the carby is broken off, maybe the tank is worth more than the mower yay that is if it doesn't leak

I would probably put a Powertorque on the alloy 500 base anyway

Thanks for the helpful comments.

I was debating whether to attempt a repair, however on close inspection it is cracked vertically as well as along the seam. Looks like its had some rough treatment at some stage prior to this incarnation.

To be truthful, the Supercut is taking all my energy at the moment so I have forked out $50 and a new one is on the way.

Yes John, I repaired the tank on my Rover Thoroughbred half a dozen times and it keeps cracking. I'll fabricate a mount for an old style B&S square tank to replace the plastic one when I get round to it. However, I have a 2 stroke Victa Power-torque and 20L of 10 year old BP fuel mix to use up.

Here is a cracked tank on a B&S Quantum engine fitted to a 2001 Rover Premier Powerstart lawn mower I was working on yesterday. Note the fuel that has leaked out. It is surprising there isn't a recall in place for these tanks as they are potential fire hazards, which is not always apparent if the crack is covered by the plastic trim.
