i picked this up off the hard rubbish today it's a victa i think,i cleaned it up and went through it, got spark, points looked good, fuel,not a lot of comp but thought it should start,nothing,put the electric start on it nothing,pulled head off all looked good after a decoke,not much slop in the piston,what else should i be looking at fella's?(it cleaned up good..cheer's

You have a 1960's [1967 by the engine number] Victa Mayfair 125cc there, but I'm not sure that the catcher is original - the 60's ones had steel catchers ex factory.

If it's got healthy spark, the next thing to check out is the carby - every chance it was left sitting for years with old fuel in it.

When you put the motor back on the base with the carby on , put a squirt of starter fluid in through the carby throat and if it gives a bit of an indication it wants to fire then you know it is a carby issue, this is providing the compression is reasonable

g'day Norm,i found that the muffler was packed with wet soot and the exhaust port was almost closed,i will give it a shot of "start ya bastard"tommorrow,i double checked the piston and there was very little movement so maybe the old girl may run..it would run a mix of 25/1 ya reckon?

25/1 is fine, wonder why it would have wet soot in the muffler

looks like it was running very rich i wonder if po was heavy handed on the fuel ratio

Not sure what blades it needs, but if you go to ebay and and put in Victa 18 you will probably find what you need

yeh thank's Norm this old girl has 4 blades 2 cutters and 2 throwers.have sent message to outdoorking part's, see how we go mate,cheer's(catcher is 70's mayfair)

Gadge's engine dating does make the engine original.
These machines were introduced in 1965 - as the very first
model Mayfair. This model was made up until 1968.

They ran this model - with the odd handle - until 1968.
I believe the original catcher was metal (Model 9 catcher).
My best guess is that the plastic (Model 15 catcher) was introduced
with the new Mayfair (with conventional Victa handlebar) in 1969.
Catchers were fully interchangeable.

This machine is well worth saving. I might add, the handle is
a great design - particularly for making quick turns.

thank's Jack,yep once i find blades i will put it to work.

OK; here are the P/Nos, from that thread I linked above - Victa part numbers are CA09150S [cutter] and CA09174S [lifter]. Both use Bolt/Washer set CA09164S.

Running searches for these numbers on the ODK Parts page is the simplest way to find them.

Good show. The one in that other Mayfair thread had a plugged muffler too.
Just a query here; did you only clean out the discharge port with a rod and so on, or burn out the carbon/soot completely? The latter is by far the best long-term solution. Best not to do it with an oxy torch though, as the mounting tab and inlet spigot are brazed to the body.

The spark plug for these was originally a Champion L-14, but I'd recommend getting an NGK B-4H, which should be easier to find at car parts joints anyway.

thank's gadge youre a winner!cleaned the port out with wire brush that fits on drill and soaked muffler in fuel then degreaser and out it came,thank you for the info!cheers

There are a couple of variants Norm, that have to do with the dimensions of the front opening, for that body shape. I'll see if I can put together a brief rundown on them.

Gadge the ngk b 4h was the wrong plug to short, the orig is champion n21 all good,cheers

Thanks for the correction gml, a misprinted part number in an old Victa Green Book led me astray there.

Cross-referencing Victa spark plug part numbers can be a bit of a PITA due to things like that.
To the point that I've drawn up a chart, which I'll post for comment shortly. It will be over in Tech Talk, I think.
