Hi Forum, I've got myself a second hand Rover 45. I'm interested to know the year it was made. It has the following stamps: Model 91202, Type 0123 01, Code 93111703. Rail Sticker shows Model no. 45058. Serial number 0376036. Your help is greatly appreciated.
Well the engine was manufactured on the 17th of November 1993 and if it's the original engine then I'd say the mower was assembled around March even April 1993.
Could you please furnish us with some photos of your Rover Red 45 and especially a close up of the ID sticker.
If you can take the chain case off you could also take some close up shots of the drive train and thus we could assess that for you as well.
The more photos the better of a picture we get to give you feedback.
Cheers, BB (also at times RB)

That's a good example of an early Rover Red as it still has the forward facing primary clutch lever as in the later version they changed the lever to rearward facing along with the plastic clutch cover which in my opinion is a pure waste of time and is merely a visual obstruction of the condition and state of rotation of the clutch body. I was just told today of a RR with the cover fitted and when the owner attempted to start the machine there was a distinctive clunking on slow rotation. Instantly the chap knew that it was the clutch body which had again become loose and after cover removal found that it was already doing damage. These covers were merely put there to appease OH&S requirements due to an open to fingers situation of a revolving clutch body. Nothing more.
BTW I note your clutch half has already been replaced at least once. These must be watched carefully and routine tightening of the cotter pin or set screws whichever are fitted is an absolute must.
Cheers, BB.
PS. May I ask how much you paid for this particular machine ?

Thanks for the information re the cover. I had seen a machine with the cover and was thinking mine would look better with one. From what you've advised it would seem looks are only skin deep.
Thanks for the tip on the clutch half. I will keep an eye on it.
P.S $500 for the machine. It was actually from a deceased estate and sentimental to the seller.
He was obviously not too sentimentally attached as $500 made it all better eh ?
It's just like crime victims that have been so hard done by and have all the physiological harm done that can never be erased but after a half a million dollar settlement they suddenly feel that all the pain is gone.
Strange how money works in mysterious ways isn't it ?
Cheers, BB.

The Model sticker and images are most helpful for the record. I note that the rear roller has traces of the Rover colour. This machine appears to be in good condition.
