I recently acquired an older Homelite XL12. This saw has a manual bar oiler. I've never run a saw with this type of saw and I'm curious about the operating principles of this design. I push the button in a few times prior to making a cut, but I don't get much oil out. When the bar & chain are off the saw, I still ntocie that hardly any oil comes out. Any ideas of the problem?

As a follow up, a quick talk with a service teck at a rental store directed me to look at the check valves in the oil line. Sure enough, the check valve between the tank and the plunger was plugged. I've got plenty of oil now!

Another help will be replacing the o-rings on the thumb pump shaft...they are what actually 'pumps' the oil.
