This mower I picked up with the Crusader Special but it had already been restored, was going to partly pull it a apart and ad a bit more colour to it, but why? so just gave it a good clean up and highlighted the wording

I notice that it was manufactured by Crowe Eng. Works. Was Al-Kro a play on maybe the developers name, Al Crowe? .if so , very imaginative.

There is certainly something cryptic in the name.
The Powerhouse Museum provide a clue:-

A brochure held by them says [in handwriting], "named after Mr Brown's wife ALICE".
I do not know who Mr Brown was ...
