Hello,
Quick query as the subject suggest.
Reasonable new to reel mowers so absorbing all I can currently. One observation I have made after purchasing 4 mowers is that the early brass clutch thrust bearing with its fiber contact washer is far superior to the black plastic ones in later 45,s that seem to have no fiber washer. All the units with the later style thrust are showing obvious signs of heat damage as a result of poor lubrication and prolonged engagement. Just confirming there is definitely no fibre washer with the black plastic thrust? Has anyone added one to reduce wear rate?

Hi Scott, The Black Plastic unit was a cost cutting exercise and utilises no fibre washer. Totally agree that the earlier brass type is far superior if also lubricated. but sometimes not as can be seen below, ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2016/12/full-5156-31826-101_1186.jpg) Cheers, BB.
I live a 24 Hour lifestyle, but every now and again I seem to fall asleep, well at least that's what my wife tells me.

Ouch,
Ever tried using the plastic thrust washer with the fiber washer fitted? I guess the only way this could improve things is if the fiber washer didn't rotate to protect the plastic but there is no way of guaranteeing this.
Sorry, off topic but I just thought of it, can anyone help me with a supplier for the red home plugs that fit in the chain case and height adjuster knob? Someone must make something close to the original!
