hello.
was given this mower today

owner unable to start
upon inspection found slight anomaly

would i have to replace the engine with the same 190cc or could i use smaller?
maybe rebuild

Why replace it that is perfectly fine just well ventilated. Actually it beyond hope except for the spares.

I usually try replace with the same size engine or slightly larger.

Can't you just rivet some tin with over the crankcase? Only two strokes need an air tight seal.

Hmmm, spoke too soon. Get another engine!

Briggs do that Sean, base looks ok, wheels are good,handle fold down bolt look good, great score

although i like the idea of tin and pop rivets. and i could not find any pop rivets.
had a bit of a look round and found this
seems to be in disguise.
would this be a suitable donor motor?

Now there's your problem.You forgot to check the air cleaner.I have to ask though.Is it worth fixing?

That motor will fit straight on Sean, best to make sure it runs before you bother swapping it over
